How to Lose Weight through Forgiveness – Part 1

Forgiveness is for you. The problem is most people don’t like themselves enough to accept it.

-Charles Lloyd

Scientists have said that 50% of all the people currently in the hospital RIGHT NOW could walk out today if they could learn to forgive.

Personal Story

I personally have had all kinds of screwed up stuff happen to me. I have been “laid off” from work because managers have personally told me to my face, eye to eye: “I don’t know how to manage you.” And these are people who are supposed to be upper level managers with 20+ years of experience “managing” hundreds and hundreds of people. I totally understand that I am “off” from the norm from the majority of the population, but I am by no means a total anomaly. Actually I think forward thinking is what got me laid off. Back in 2007 when I worked for CDCR I worked for a now defunct section of Office of Risk Management. Their motto was to basically “to alleviate silos within the department.” I was hired because I had a history of IT work, international public relations work at a worldwide level, and high analytical skills. I was also hired because I have never worked for the State of California and they wanted fresh ideas. So at that time (2007) I wrote up a proposal of certain things that needed to be done internally within the department, to “alleviate silos” – which is what they said they wanted and needed to do. Here is a 2007 list of things that needed to change in order to reach the goal:

  • Need of a Facebook page – A few years before the Facebook explosion
  • Need of  a Twitter page – During the Twitter explosion
  • Need of  YouTube page – Absolute necessity
  • Need of  a blog “get the word out” with an RSS feed
  • Copious amount of “real pictures” and not BS “stock photos” of some “grey haired suit working hard for justice”
  • Quit using “governmental wording” if you want people to trust you

Now in front of everybody I got a bunch of “Great Jobs” “attaboys” and pats on the back. In closed meetings with this above mentioned manager, I was told that “I was naive and unrealistic” and later was told that “I did not possess the necessary skills as an analyst…” Fast forward to 2010 guess what CDCR has on their homepage?  Yep a Facebook page, a Twitter page, a Flickr page, a YouTube channel and a RSS feed. LOL

I honestly have every reason to be “angry” about my ideas being more or less stolen later on, yet being “laid off” before they came to fruition.

OK so WTF does this have to do with weight loss?

EVERYTHING! For most people, being laid off may cause some sort of mental depression. During depression many people (you may be one of them) will try to get rid of the pain through:

  • Drugs / Alcohol
  • Food
  • Sex

How to Lose Weight through Forgiveness – Part 1

In the western world these are the top three pain alleviators. I know this is true because 90% of the advertising in the western world has to do with one of those three things. In other words, advertising has one goal: To let you know that you are a failure so you need to buy something to make you feel better.

Two of those three top advertising campaigns are the reason why in the United States, since 1995, we have an obesity rate of over 20 percent! The only exception is in Colorado where they have a 19.8% obesity rate. Also not surprising, since 1995, the use of anti-depressants, such as Prozac, have gone up some 4000% in the last 16 years.

Who is making us stuff our faces? Nobody.  All of these problems can start to be erased with just three simple words, no matter what someone has done to you, or who YOU may have screwed over. Pick one:

  • I am sorry
  • I forgive you

Great post. I’m having a hard time forgiving myself for falling off the wagon.
