The Power of Focus
The Power of Focus

This post is about The Power of Focus.

For most people I know including myself, I am often thinking about new stuff to do, people to contact and places to go. You probably have good intentions when you think of all this stuff, most highly successful people I know “suffer” from the same problem. The difference is highly successful use the power of focus to achieve their dreams. Here is how you can to.

The Power of Focus

If you are anything like me when you think of something new to do, you end up scouring the internet for information upon information upon information. While in itself that is great…if you actually do anything with that information. The way to achieve your dreams is not information, its focus.

Information now is nothing like it use to be, years ago information was controlled by the elite and was for the elite. Information was centralized and was a high value commodity, hence the reason why colleges and universities were and still are so expensive.

When the internet became popular and information became more and more readily available all those restrictions were soon bypassed. Now information beyond your wildest imagination is readily available and most of the time free for the asking. Information that was once only available to affluent people and institutions of higher learning is now available to Nigerian scammers willing to pass along $400,000,000USD of the Prime Minister of Finance great uncle in the country of Luxemburg for a small $2000 transfer fee to be sure you are an upstanding individual.

I use to spend countless hours doing the same thing over and over again, while my intentions were great, in the end I accomplished nothing more than chasing my tail. This is what I am guilty of and most who suffer from analysis paralysis. Don’t do this!

Focus

Focus sucks…at least in the beginning it does. Years ago when before I really concentrated on my focus when I would start something new I would want to do it all at the same time. I would want to write about it, talk about it, research it and be good at it tall on the first day. As you know that does not happen…EVER. The hardest part for me is doing one thing and one thing only. Keeping me from trying to conquer the world in one swoop was usually my problem.

The Power of Focus

Weight Loss

If you want to lose weight, then concentrate on that and that only. In this day and age its way to easy to get distracted, and even easier to lose focus.  Most people, who want me to help them lose weight, want to do it all at once. They end up telling me about their best friends’ cousin who loss weight through the miracle Dunkin Donut Diet, or how their aunt went from a size 17 to a size 4 in “only” 90 days. What most people don’t know is when you hear about these diets they may actually work, but the level of focus is way beyond most people’s normal focus tolerance levels.

These sorts of diets focus on one thing and one thing only, Weight loss, and that’s it. Their whole lives, eating habits, exercise program focus on strictly weight loss. One of the most ridiculous things I consistently see is trying to achieve permanent weight loss results in a 2 week diet.  This ranks right up there with trying to be a world class golfer while only playing golf during your lunch break from your job at Wal-Mart. If you want permanent weight loss then you have to go on a permanent diet.

Concentration

If you want sustained results in any area of your life then concentrate on focusing on one thing until you good at it and it becomes second nature. If weight loss is your goal, then concentrate on that and only that. Don’t try to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time, because that’s what Men’s Health or Cosmo said. Focus on one thing and stick to it. Even focus requires focus.

Merriam-Webster describes focus as the “Direction of Attention”. Focus you attention for a better life.
